“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf” 

is a helpful quote to reflect on particularly when thinking of the process of therapy. 

To give ourselves compassion we first have to recognise what we are suffering. “We can’t heal what we don’t feel”. 

It’s a natural response to not want to sit or explore painful emotions like guilt , sadness , loneliness. By being mindful and recognising emotions as they come we can respond with compassion towards ourself and explore the signals of need from our emotions.
