When trauma is triggered, we don’t always respond from our current age or perspective, sometimes we react from the age at which the wound was first created.
It’s incredibly common to feel like your reactions are “bigger” than the situation in front of you. There’s a biological reason for that. Your nervous system works like a historian, holding onto memories of where you were hurt and staying alert to protect you from experiencing that pain again. Often, it responds in the ways it once learned were necessary for survival.
If you notice yourself feeling or reacting “younger” during moments of stress, it doesn’t mean you’re weak or immature. It may be a sign that a younger part of you still needs care, safety, and compassion, perhaps in ways they never fully received at the time.
<a One might draw a palm tree. Another an oak. Someone else a willow. Someone might draw an entire forest.
They were all given the same word, but every brain interpreted it differently.
We experience the world through our own history, nervous system, memories, support systems, and the meaning we make of things.
Sometimes in therapy we hear the classic:
“I don’t know why I’m here… my friend went through the exact same thing and they’re fine.”
But the reality is that two people can go through the same event and experience it completely differently. Why? Because our brains and nervous systems interpret and store experiences based on our past, our resilience at that moment, the support around us, and what the experience meant to us personally.
So if something affected you and others seemed “fine,” that doesn’t make your feelings wrong. It just means you’re different humans with different inner worlds.
#psychotherapy #compassionate therapy #traumainformedpractice.

client feedback

https://www.ckpsychotherapy.co.uk/blog/client-feedback6111102

https://www.ckpsychotherapy.co.uk/blog/client-feedback6111102#comments

Uncategorized

CK Therapy client reviewsRead this wonderful client testimonial from someone who’s worked with our compassionate partner Lisa.“I’ve been going to sessions with Lisa for almost a year and a half, after struggling with the effects of childhood trauma l needed someone to help me unpack everything and help to improve self esteem, anxiety, depression and relationships with others.Lisa has been a wonderful therapist and has truly helped me to change my life, how I feel about m [...]

CK Therapy client reviews
Read this wonderful client testimonial from someone who’s worked with our compassionate partner Lisa.
“I’ve been going to sessions with Lisa for almost a year and a half, after struggling with the effects of childhood trauma l needed someone to help me unpack everything and help to improve self esteem, anxiety, depression and relationships with others.
Lisa has been a wonderful therapist and has truly helped me to change my life, how I feel about myself, understand my life experiences and understand how to better connect with others.
