CK Therapy ; thoughtful reflections.
Two of our favourite questions to ask are from the brilliant psychotherapist Emma Reed Turrell when talking about putting our needs into the frame are; 1. How has someone cast you in their life? & 2. Do you want to play that part? As an example; 1. Someone has cast you as their friend they want to speak to you 24/7 via txt. & 2. You’re someone who doesn’t like messaging and would prefer a face to face conversation over a coffee. Once you have the answers to these questions you can explore if you can re navigate your friendships / relationships to meet both of your needs. #psychotherapyquestions #pleaseyourself #psychotherapy #mentalhealthawareness #boundaries #negotiatingfriendship #EMDR #arttherapy

Two of our favourite powerful and emotive books by Dr Bruce Perry with Maia Szalavitz; Born for Love ; why empathy is essential and endangered. The boy who was raised as a dog; what children can teach us about loss, love and healing. Born for love “In this provocative book, renowned child psychiatrist Bruce D. Perry and award winning science journalist Maia Szalavitz interweave research and stories from Perry's practice with cutting edge scientific studies and historical examples to explain how empathy develops, why it is essential for our development into healthy adults, and how it is threatened in the modern world. Born for Love offers practical ideas for combating the negative influences of modern life and fostering positive social change to benefit us all” The boy who was raised as a dog. “ How does trauma affect a child's mind-and how can that mind. And Oder Stortes From a Child Psychiatrist's Notchook What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss Love, and Healing BRUCE PERRY, M.D., Ph.D. with MAIA SZALAVITZ Child psychiatrist Dr. Bruce D. What a muddle by Book by Jess van der Hoech and Renée Potgieter Marks. We use this in the therapy room frequently with young children struggling with understanding their emotions and helping teach them regulatory tools like bubble breathing. It’s a brilliant resource for parents, therapists, teachers, social workers and carers. “What a Muddle is an excellent workbook written to help children with emotional regulation. The book is written in a story format and requires the child to engage with the story and participate in exercises that promotes and enhances emotional regulation. This book can be used by adopters, forster carers, therapists, social workers and teachers alike. The book is very practical and include clear instructions on how to best make use of it. Rear Cover 'What a Muddle' is an interactive therapeutic workbook designed to help children begin to understand the impact that difficult or traumatic experiences can have on the functioning of the brain. A variety of activities throughout the book enable the child to start to explore this complex subject through the story of Sam, while gently encouraging them to begin to verbalise their own experiences. Physical exercises in the book can promote changes in emotional regulation. The workbook also provides plenty of opportunity to introduce and promote the child's sense of confidence and self worth. Having created the concept of 'What a Muddle', the content was inspired by children in therapy, ensuring that it is easy to follow, easy to understand and user friendly for parents, carers and practitioners alike. For Ages 4 -12 Years.” #bubblebreathing #whatamuddle #therapytoolsforkids #therapytoolsforschool #psychoeducation #therapistrecommended #arttherapy #emdr #psychotherapy CK Therapy ; Understanding trauma therapy
Imagine your brain is like a factory. Evervday experiences happen and they are boxed up. The boxes run through the factory smoothly are processed and turned and stored into memories. When vou experience a traumatic event this box is too big to fit through the factory. The box is clogging up the factory, it's making all the alarm systems go off. Things are noisy, everything else is stuck behind. Think; flashbacks (flashing lights) , overwhelming noises and an inability to stay in the present moment. What we do in therapy is take a look at that box. We handle it with care and take out small pieces of the box to process one bit at a time. We make smaller boxes from it to help your brain fit it through the machine and turn it into a memorv. It may still carry sadness or anger however the level of distress and PTSD symptoms like lights noises and panic are no longer there. Your brain can start looking at the new boxes coming in. “You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf” is a helpful quote to reflect on particularly when thinking of the process of therapy. To give ourselves compassion we first have to recognise what we are suffering. “We can’t heal what we don’t feel”. It’s a natural response to not want to sit or explore painful emotions like guilt , sadness , loneliness. By being mindful and recognising emotions as they come we can respond with compassion towards ourself and explore the signals of need from our emotions. - - - If you would like support or a deeper understanding of this we offer options to support you through exploring, naming and responding to your emotions in the moment “in the waves”. We can help you through classic talking therapies through to Psychoeducational sessions, EMDR and Art Psychotherapy. Channel 4’s Davina McCalls Pill revolution is an important documentary. Grounding techniques are simple, quick and easy strategies to help you stay calm and reduce stress, anxiety or panic. Grounding techniques help you to refocus on the 'here and now'. There are some really easy ones like counting to ten or stamping your feet on the ground or holding a familiar soft object. one great technique for grounding is chewing gum; * It helps focus yoir attention to your senses; touch, taste, smell. * It focuses your attention on a physical activity. * Most importantly the act of chewing helps send signals to the brain that you are safe. If you want to learn how or why it makes you feel safe Or to practice learning more or more complex grounding techniques with one of our therapists online or face to face get in contact; I 07730569162 cektherapy@gmail.com www.ckpsychotherapy.co.uk #chewinggum #groundingtechniques #groundingmyself #selfcare #psychotherapy #arttherapy #emdrtherapy #onlinetherapy |
