CKTherapy : Thoughtful reflections.
Stepping Away Is Not Giving Up As therapists we often see how hard it can be to step away from something that’s no longer working. Often people carry beliefs that walking away means failure. But what if letting go is actually an act of strength, clarity, and self-compassion? Sometimes, stepping away is the most aligned and protective thing we can do. It can be the space we need to heal or grow. We love the quote by Elizabeth Day: “Failure is the condiment to my success.” Because it’s true — our perceived failures often season our learning with richness and often lead to our own version of what is success. Clinically, we know that insight often comes not from pushing harder, but from pausing, reflecting, and choosing differently. Growth doesn’t always look like persistence — sometimes it looks like rest, redirection, or release. Prompts for self reflection; • What are the things you’d like to step away from? • What would you like to step toward instead? • What are you missing that you could gain by starting something new - or by leaving something that no longer serves you? • If you knew stepping away wasn’t failure, what would you give yourself permission to change? If you’re in a season of stepping away, you’re not broken. You’re listening. If you’re finding it difficult to step away from something — or feel weighed down by shame that’s keeping you stuck - we’re here to help. Get in touch to explore this gently and personally through therapy.
